Trusted Dental Care for CDCP Patients in Edmonton
At Whyte Avenue Dental Clinic, we proudly accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and welcome new patients of all ages — from children and families to seniors. Our team is experienced with the CDCP program, and we make the process simple so you can focus on your smile, not the paperwork.
Located in the heart of Old Strathcona at the Strathcona Health & Wellness Centre, just steps from Whyte Avenue and the University of Alberta, our clinic is led by Dr. Olugbenga A. Akinsanya and a compassionate, experienced team. Whether you need a routine cleaning, urgent care, or restorative treatment, you’ll be treated with the same care and respect as every patient we see.
What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a federal government program that helps eligible Canadians cover the cost of dental care. It’s designed to make essential dental treatment more affordable for families, seniors, and individuals who don’t have private dental insurance.
If you’ve received your CDCP Member Card from Sun Life Canada, you’re already enrolled and ready to book your appointment with us. If you’re not sure whether you qualify, we can help — just give us a call.

Frequently Asked Questions
The CDCP is a national program designed to make essential dental care affordable for Canadian residents without private dental insurance.
It depends on your adjusted family net income:
- Under $70,000: 100% of eligible costs are covered.
- $70,000 to $79,999: 60% is covered (you pay a 40% co-payment).
- $80,000 to $89,999: 40% is covered (you pay a 60% co-payment).
Note: Patients are responsible for any remaining balance if there is a gap between the CDCP fee guide and standard provincial dental fees. We will always discuss costs before your treatment.
You qualify if you meet all of the following criteria:
- You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
- Your adjusted family net income is under $90,000.
- You do not have access to private dental insurance.
- You have filed your most recent tax return.
No. Your eligibility is automatically reassessed by the government each year using your latest tax return. Just ensure your taxes are filed on time to avoid coverage gaps.
Once you receive your welcome package and member card from Sun Life, call Whyte Avenue Dental at 780-435-1281 to schedule your visit. Remember to bring your card to your appointment.
The CDCP covers a wide range of services, including cleanings, X-rays, fillings, root canals, and dentures.
Important: Routine care (like cleanings) can be done immediately, but complex procedures (like crowns or dentures) require pre-authorization from the program before treatment can begin.
